Is my consultation covered by MSP?
Are any shots covered by MSP?
Yes
Some routine or childhood vaccinations like mumps, measles and rubella are covered by MSP
Ask us and we’ll tell you which shots you can have for free or check the price list page
How far ahead of my trip do I need to get vaccinated?
This varies depending on which vaccines you need
Come in the sooner the better but there are often alternate schedules that can be used for short notice travel
Do I get my shots and prescription meds at the time of the consult?
Yes!
We provide everything at the time of your visit including any shots covered by MSP
We have all currently available vaccines in Canada
How long does a travel medicine consult take?
Allow for 45-60 minutes in the office including getting any shots
Some visits may be faster than others
Will I get sick after getting shots? Does it hurt?
Vaccines can cause a sore arm where the injection goes but you shouldn’t feel unwell afterwards
Some live virus vaccines like Yellow Fever can cause mild flu-like symptoms for a day or 2 but this is not usually the case
Do you see children and people with medical complications?
Yes!
Is there a vaccine for Dengue fever?
Yes but it is not available in Canada or the US
It is not recommended to get this vaccine while abroad as it has not been comprehensively evaluated
Is there a vaccine for malaria?
No
Malaria is spread by mosquito
The only way to prevent it is by using a mosquito net and insect repellent along with prescribed meds which you take when away
Is tick-borne encephalitis vaccine available in Canada?
No it is not currently available in Canada
This disease is present in parts of northern Europe and Russia
