Is my consultation covered by MSP?
No.
Travel medicine advice and travel vaccines are not covered by MSP.
Travel vaccinations may be covered by your extended health medical plan. Please check with them for coverage.
Are any shots covered by MSP?
Yes.
Some routine or childhood vaccinations like measles, mumps, and rubella are covered by MSP.

How far ahead of my trip do I need to get vaccinated?
This varies depending on which vaccines you need.
Come in the sooner the better but there are often alternate schedules that can be used for short notice travel.
Do I get my shots and prescription meds at the time of the consult?
Yes!
We provide everything at the time of your visit including any shots covered by MSP.
We have all currently available vaccines in Canada.
How long does a travel medicine consult take?
Allow for 45-60 minutes in the office including getting any shots.
Some visits may be faster than others.
Will I get sick after getting shots? Does it hurt?
Vaccines can cause a sore arm where the injection goes but you shouldn’t feel unwell afterwards.
Some live virus vaccines like Yellow Fever can cause mild flu-like symptoms for a day or 2 but this is not usually the case.
Do you see children and people with medical complications?
Yes! Our registered nurses can immunize all age groups and provide travel health advice to individuals with medical complications.
Is there a vaccine for Dengue fever?
Yes but it is not available in Canada.
A dengue vaccine is available for children and adults in Europe, Brazil, and Indonesia. A vaccine is also available for 9 – 16 year olds in the US with previous dengue infection.
Is there a vaccine for malaria?
No.
Malaria is spread by mosquitoes.
The only way to prevent it is by using a mosquito net and insect repellent along with prescribed meds which you take when away.
Is tick-borne encephalitis vaccine available in Canada?
No it is not currently available in Canada.
